Stay in an Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Passive House: Experience Extraordinary Comfort
When the Bellwether on Main duplex is completed, one home will be available for short term rental. It will likely be the only certified Passive House built with Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) in the US open for guests. Your stay can include a personal educational component about the construction, or you may rent it just to experience extraordinary comfort at the junction of New York’s Hudson Valley and Massachusetts’ Berkshire Mountains.
Previously, the Woodstock (NY) Passive House was open for guests, and was widely reviewed as the most comfortable home guests had ever experienced.
The Location: Bellwether is in the Center of Hillsdale New York’s historic hamlet
This innovative construction is also in an awesome location, ideal for guests. The lot straddles the Hudson Valley to the west and the Berkshire Mountains to the east, 2-½ hours by car north of NYC. A 19th century residence was torn down in the 1960s for a bank, never built. Invasive trees, primarily Norway Maples, took over. When it came on the market over 60 years later I saw an opportunity to build homes in a walkable neighborhood. It also offered a south facing hillside, perfect for energy efficient buildings. The lot is on the right in the first photo below, looking west toward Hudson, 20 minutes ahead. Bellwether is far down on the left in the second photo, looking east. The stores in view are HGS Home Chef, Tiny Hearts Flower Shop, Hillsdale General Store, Cook and Larder, Hudson Valley Letterpress, and Passiflora Home gift shop. The distance sign, Veterans Memorial, and town park are directly opposite. This is 3 miles from the Massachusetts line and the Catamount Mountain Resort. Multiple Berkshire area attractions including Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, and the Norman Rockwell Museum are close by. The Taconic Mountains are in view throughout the lot.
And construction along the road frontage? Open to discussion.
